tagged → #castielbalthazar #DON'T #LOOK #AT #ME #This is probably the first opportunity Castiel's had to really think about Balthazar since what he did #considering that first he snapped and lost himself in the whole God business #Then there were the leviathans and the amnesia and taking on the effects of the wall breaking #then purgatory and everything with Naomi #being on his own with the tablet is really the first moment he's had to just slow down and be able to remember #And the fact that he quotes what his 'good friend' said to him in a throwaway comment years ago #when SO MUCH has happened since then and it would be very easy for that one random night to be a distant memory by now #makes me think that's exactly what Castiel has been doing- remembering #And with how lonely Cas seemed this episode- trying so hard to strike up friendly conversation with the waitress #and talking about feeling like he's been on the road forever #I just imagine him thinking of Balthazar because he never felt lonely around him and he always had somewhere he belonged with him #and there's undoubtedly guilt and pain with those memories but they're strengthening too #Hence the little pause and proud tone he has on 'good friend' #And can I just say how much Naomi's bit about how Castiel has never worked right killed me? Because Balthazar loved him all along #enough so that when Castiel was finally dragged to 'trial' in Heaven Balthazar was right there to defend him #even though in the eyes of so many in Heaven Castiel came out 'wrong' from the start- that never mattered to him
